Adobe Lightroom 1.4 Update bugs

Just found out (via a Flickr thread) that Adobe’s update for Lightroom 1.4 is causing a number of errors including mucked up date info. You can get more info on their blog.

I hadn’t noticed any issues but have downgraded to Lightroom 1.3.1 just in case. No issues with downgrading (so far).

How I get by with only 3 Pocket Wizards

I currently have 2 flash guns (guess they call them speedlights?), Nikon SB-600 and SB-800, an Alien Bees ABR800 ringflash and two Alien Bees B800 monolights but only 3 Pocket Wizards. What’s a fellow to do? After configuring, reconfiguring, plotting various ways to rig wires and splitters I remembered that Alien Bees monolights can be triggered by light from a flash. Eureka! I no longer needed to contemplate dropping another $170 for another Pocket Wizard, which are great but -not cheap-. Below is a diagram of a setup I play on experimenting more with. The gell’d SB-800 in the back is optional depending on the look required.

New store

It’s been a while but I’m here with an update: the site now has a store where you may purchuse various useful items for a minimal fee. Free items will still be available in the downloads section, but unfortunately larger items/images cost money to host. I’ve also decided to charge for images and other items which take some time to prepare. After all, our time and effort are valuable to us, right?

2007.12.08 Jason and Mary

Jason and Mary are friends of friends. They approached me and asked if I’d shoot portraits for them. Of course I agreed, suggesting Blue Jacket Park, one of my favorite places, in the Baldwin Park area of Orlando. Our time was perfect as the sun began to set by the time we got there. The shoot went well (despite a few technical hiccups) and I’m in the process of post-processing the images.

2007.12.06 Rowe Family Shoot

Last Thursday brought an opportunity to take Xmas portraits for my friends, the Rowe family. Because we had to reschedule the shoot for a weeknight I only brought a few lights, and ended up only using one, the ABR800 (Alien Bees ringflash). I have to say I was impressed at how great the shots turned out with such a minimal setup time.
